Riding the Rhine without a map | Epilogue

It was a terrible, terrible time, but still something about completing this journey still felt undeniably good.

I can tell you precisely what Mel would have said about it.

You’re an Eejit

She had a way with words like that.

I don’t need to tell you again what I and everyone else thought about Mel.

Over the past few months there have been some incredible tributes, and I hope in time there will be at least one more – a book with the best bits of Elemental.

I’m writing this in April 2013 with another big cycle trip ahead of me.

John O Groats to Lands End will be a major, major challenge, but whatever it brings I will never again go through what I went through when I rode the Rhine in 2012.

I’m planning to ride EV15 and chanced upon your blog. I had many a good chuckle and then after reading your daily adventures decided to read the Prologue and Epilogue which moved me greatly. I shall buy a map.

      Andrew,
Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you enjoyed reading about the trip, and I hope you enjoy riding it sometime soon. Its been a while since I’ve been able to find the time for any similar undertakings (not since John O Groats to Lands End the following year) due to the arrival of a couple of children, but I’m working on getting away for a few days this summer. I won’t be buying a map.

    Hi Mark,

Imm currently on the Rhine route having just arrived in Cologne. I have to say each time I read the next installment i’m amazed at how many mechanical faults youve had. Its also inspring how no matter how much you go off track and how many hours on the saddle you’ve had, you still keep going haha, you’re 12-16 hour rides are insane. I got lost around Lake Constance and freaked out.

    Cheers for an entertaining read
